The Concept:
The girls football game is a culmination of a project which has been going on since July. It's goal is to attract attention and discussion concerning young Muslim girls in Denmark, who are not allowed to play handball because of the security rules of the Danish Handball Union .
In contrary to the Danish Handball Union, The Danish Football Union has not forbidden the girls to use headscarves. The Danish Football Union has taken part in our project and is looking forward to a headscarf, which both the girls, their environment and the security rules for both handball and soccer aprove.
All together there will be 16 girls, ages 14-16 playing the Street Football Game. These girls come from different soccer clubs and have different ethnic backgrounds.
There will be shown two new sports scarves during the game. The one has been made by the group participating in the project "Girls on the Pitch" in collaboration with the dress designer Helene Jensen. The colors these girls have chosen for the goalkeeper´s uniform are yellow and red and the fieldplayers have pink and purple uniforms with headscarves to match.

The Dutch designer, Cindy Van den Bremen has made a headscarf, which is tested and recognized by the Dutch Technical Institute TNO and will also be used in the game by another team.
It is important, that those who participate in this project do not focus on political interests, but think of this as one concrete way of helping the girls to have an active sports life together with others of the same age.
Our motto is: The girls have the right to choose.
With this in mind we have made the Sports Headscarf as a step forward in giving the girls this choice.
